TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology returns to non-conference play with a home matchup against Greenville College tonight at 7 p.m. (Eastern Time).
The Fightin' Engineers stand 18-12 on the season after defeating Anderson 5-4 in 10 innings last night. Sophomore Kevin Jendra leads the team with a .351 batting average, with junior Caleb Kissel just behind at .350 with six doubles and 41 hits. Six more Fightin' Engineers have batting averages above the .300 mark.
Pitching wise, Rose-Hulman leads the HCAC and ranks 24th nationally with an earned run average of 3.11. Starting pitchers have included Karson Nixon (4-1, 0.81), Andrew Stull (2-5, 3.05), R.J. Carroll (4-1, 3.26) and Joey Callahan (3-3, 3.86). Senior Ben Menich has made 10 appearances out of the bullpen, and junior Alec McNally stands 2-1 with five saves.
Greenville enters tonight's game with a 14-15 record after falling to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference leader Webster University on Tuesday. Dalton McFarland leads the team with a .421 batting average and seven doubles. Tim Osborne has a team-high six home runs and six starters have batting averages above the .300 mark.
The pitching staff enters with a 4.91 earned run average, led by C.J. Opp (4-3, 3.96), Ryan Strohm (3-2, 3.97), Tyler Pilcher (3-2, 5.62) and Phillip Reedy (0-1, 3.50). The bullpen has included Nathan Garbe (1-0, 1.23) and closer Nick Bifano (2-2, 3 saves, 5.96).
After tonight's game, Rose-Hulman heads to Bluffton for a showdown of the league's top two teams on Saturday and Sunday. Bluffton leads the HCAC at 13-7 in league play, with Rose-Hulman just one-half game back at 12-7. The Fightin' Engineers and Beavers will play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon and a single game on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
