TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hits the road for Anderson University and a key Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball matchup on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
The Fightin' Engineers stand 12-9 on the season and 7-4 in conference games, while Anderson has a 15-6 mark and a 7-3 league record. Anderson currently ranks in the HCAC standings, one game behind first place Bluffton, with Rose-Hulman one-half game behind in fourth.
Sophomore Drew Schnitz leads the Rose-Hulman offense with a .467 batting average on the season. Junior Caleb Kissel has a .425 average and team-highs of 34 hits and five doubles. Sophomore Kevin Jendra ranks third on the squad in hitting at .375 with four doubles.
Freshman Joey Callahan has started both mid-week conference games so far this season and stands 2-2 with a 3.98 earned run average. The pitching staff has a conference leading 2.94 ERA overall, including nine pitchers with ERAs under 4.00.
Anderson ranks third in the HCAC in earned run average (4.34) and leads the conference with 18 home runs offensively. Cole Heberling has a .436 average with six doubles and three home runs, and Zack Hufferd has hit six home runs with 27 RBIs this spring. Five different pitchers have three or more starts this spring.
After Tuesday's game, Rose-Hulman travels to Fontbonne for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Central Time.
