TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology returns to non-conference action with a match against Spalding University on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Art Nehf Field.
The Fightin' Engineers stand 6-4 on the season after splitting two games with Illinois Wesleyan and defeating Baldwin Wallace during the first home series of the 2016 campaign last weekend. Daniel Sutherland was named HCAC Pitcher of the Week after tossing seven shutout innings in Sunday's 12-0 win over Illinois Wesleyan.
Offensively, Zach Trusk leads the Engineers with a .400 batting average, a .657 slugging average and a .488 on-base percentage. Trusk has three doubles, two hom runs, 10 runs scored and 11 RBIs this season to go along with one HCAC Player of the Week award.
Senior Caleb Kissel stands at .378 with two doubles, and senior Kody Alayon is batting .375 with one double and six stolen bases. Other Rose-Hulman starters above .300 include Josh Koutnik (.364) and Hazen Hamather (.303, 2 2B).
On the mound, Sutherland is 2-0 with no runs allowed in 14.1 innings of work. Senior Karson Nixon is 1-1 with 24 strikeouts and a 2.84 ERA in 19 innings of work. Senior Andrew Stull is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 21 innings. Cody Sunderhaus has the lone save out of the bullpen and has not allowed a run in two appearances.
Spalding comes into the matchup with a 9-6 record. Korie Vire is hitting .500 wtih 18 stolen bases and Kam Brunner is batting .480 to lead the Golden Eagles offense.
After Wednesday's game, Rose-Hulman travels to Earlham for a three-game series to open the HCAC schedule this weekend.
