Baseball Travels to Franklin on Tuesday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hits the road for a mid-week conference matchup at Franklin College on Tuesday at 4:13 p.m.

The Fightin' Engineers stand 19-7 overall and 11-3 in HCAC play, while Franklin has an 11-17 record and is 6-9 in league games.  Rose-Hulman is coming off a three-game sweep at Bluffton last weekend, while the Grizzlies won one-of-three games against Mount St. Joseph.

The game is a rematch of last Wednesday's game at Art Nehf Field, won 5-3 by Franklin.  The teams complete their three-game series with another single game at Franklin on May 3.

Rose-Hulman has the reigning HCAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week in Drew Schnitz and Karson Nixon.  Schnitz batted .500 last week with a team-high .588 on-base percentage, while Nixon tossed a three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts at Bluffton.

The Rose-Hulman offense features eight starters hitting above the .300 mark.  Hazen Hamather and Zach Trusk currently lead the offense with batting averages of .337.

On the mound, Rose-Hulman has a 3.66 earned run average.  The starters have included Nixon (5-1, 2.94), Andrew Stull (3-2, 4.74), Daniel Sutherland (4-1, 2.43), Alec McNally (2-0, 3.14) and Joey Callahan (2-1, 4.12).  Cody Sunderhaus has four saves and 14 strikeouts in 9.1 innings to lead the bullpen.

Franklin is led offensively by Jordan Clark at .325 with nine doubles and five home runs.  The pitching staff has compiled a 4.43 ERA for the Grizzlies this season.

After Tuesday's matchup, Rose-Hulman hits the road for Defiance this weekend.  The three-game series includes a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
