TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hits the road for a three-game weekend series at Defiance College on Saturday and Sunday.
The series includes a doubleheader on Saturday at a new start time of 1 pm and a single nine-inning game on Sunday at noon.
The Fightin' Engineers stand 20-7 overall and 12-3 in HCAC play, while Defiance has a 15-14 record and is 8-8 in league games. Rose-Hulman has won four consecutive games entering the weekend, with three wins at Bluffton and one victory at Franklin.
Rose-Hulman has the reigning HCAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week in Drew Schnitz and Karson Nixon. Schnitz batted .500 last week with a team-high .588 on-base percentage, while Nixon tossed a three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts at Bluffton.
The Rose-Hulman offense features eight starters hitting above the .300 mark. Schnitz leads the team in batting average with a .337 mark, six doubles and one home run. Hazen Hamather, Caleb Kissel, Patrick Klima and Zach Trusk are all hitting exactly .333 entering this weekend's action.
On the mound, Rose-Hulman has a 3.53 earned run average. The starters have included Nixon (5-1, 2.94), Andrew Stull (3-2, 4.74), Daniel Sutherland (4-1, 2.43), Alec McNally (3-0, 2.45) and Joey Callahan (2-1, 4.12). Cody Sunderhaus has four saves and 14 strikeouts in 9.1 innings to lead the bullpen.
Defiance is led by Ryan Kohlhofer at .363, Zack Reed at .347, Quinten Harrington at .346 and Gary evengood at .345. Seven starters for Defiance are all hitting over .320. The starting rotation is led by Nick Watkins (5-1, 2.98), Dave Blanch (4-3, 3.38), Nick Peters (2-3, 5.00) and Jacob Green (0-3, 6.23), with Chris Douglas recording four saves out of the bullpen.
