SAUGET, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will face Washington University (Mo.) in a matchup of two of the nation's top academic institutions in round two of the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Central Time (8 p.m. Indiana Time).
The Fightin' Engineers stand 30-11 on the season, while Washington University comes into the contest with a 32-16 mark. Both teams won their opening round game in the NCAA Division III Central Regional on Wednesday, Rose-Hulman by a 7-2 margin over Wartburg and Washington University by an 8-0 score against Augustana.
Rose-Hulman relied on a 13-hit offensive attack and eight strong pitching innings from Alec McNally to claim a 7-2 win over Wartburg on Wednesday (COMPLETE WEDNESDAY COVERAGE). Zach Trusk led the offensive effort with four hits.
Washington University relied on a four-hit shutout from Brad Margoli and two RBIs each from three players to lead an 11-hit attack.
Rose-Hulman received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament by winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season and postseason tournament titles. Washington University earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament as chosen by the national selection committee.
