TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team will travel to Franklin College on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. for a rescheduled game. Rose-Hulman has also announced that this weekend's series with Mount St. Joseph will now include a doubleheader on Friday at 6 pm and a single game on Saturday at noon due to projected afternoon rain.
Rose-Hulman leads the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings by two games entering this week's play. The Fightin' Engineers are 15-5 in league play, with Manchester and Transylvania tied for second at 14-8. The winner of the HCAC regular season championship will host the four-team, double-elimination conference tournament on May 12-14.
Rose-Hulman split a doubleheader against Manchester University on Friday night to move to 23-9 overall. Eight starters are batting over .300, led by Patrick Klima at .364. Caleb Kissel stands at .358 on the season with eight doubles, and Drew Schnitz has a .330 average with eight extra-base hits. David Burnside has a team-high 17 extra-base hits on 15 doubles and two home runs.
Pitching wise, Rose-Hulman has a 3.57 earned run average and 226 strikeouts in 282 innings of work. The starting rotation has included Alec McNally (4-0, 2.06), Daniel Sutherland (4-1, 2.35), Karson Nixon (6-2, 3.05) and Andrew Stull (4-3, 5.14). Cody Sunderhaus leads the bullpen with four saves and has held the opposition scoreless in 10.1 innings with 15 strikeouts.
Franklin stands 13-22 overall and 8-14 in conference play. The two teams have split their first two meetings with road wins, Franklin by a 5-3 margin and Rose-Hulman by an 8-0 score.
After Tuesday's game, Rose-Hulman returns home to face Mount St. Joseph on Senior Weekend this Friday and Saturday. Two additional non-conference games have been added to the home schedule after this weekend, and the remaining Fightin' Engineer schedule is listed below:
