TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology returns to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball action with a matchup against Anderson University on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Art Nehf Field.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-2 in HCAC play after a three-game series against preseason HCAC favorite Earlham College at home last weekend. Anderson has a 1-2 conference mark after traveling to Bluffton last week.
The Fightin' Engineer lineup features four potential starters with over .300 batting averages. Zach Trusk leads the offense at .431 with four doubles and one home run. David Burnside stands at .365 with team-highs of five doubles and three home runs.
Other Rose-Hulman offensive potential starters over .300 are Brian Thomas (.350, 2 2B, 1 HR) and Marcus Wechselberger (.327, 3 2B, 1 3B).
The Rose-Hulman pitching staff is led by starters Jonathan Banks (1-1, 4.12), Ian Grant (1-1, 4.50) and Cody Sunderhaus (0-2, 6.45). Clayton Mayfield (1-2, 2.03) and Luke Buehler (0-1, 2.79) have paced the bullpen effort.
Anderson has a .241 batting average and a 6.13 team ERA entering Wednesday's matchup. Andrew Rolfsen (.343, 2 2B) and Augdan Wilson (.339, 3 2B) lead the Ravens offense, with Austin Cain (.313, 2 2B) and Wil Davis (.300, 2 2B) also over .300. The pitching staff has been led by Nick Jones (1-0, 0.00 in 12.2 IP), Tucker Waddups (2-0, 0.93 ERA in 19.1 IP) and Jordan May (1-0, 3.60).
Wednesday's game is the 26th meeting between the two schools since Rose-Hulman joined the HCAC in 2006-07. The Fightin' Engineers lead the series 15-10, with a 9-0 win in the most recent meeting last April.
After Wednesday's matchup, Rose-Hulman will host Hanover in a three-game series on Friday night and Saturday afternoon this weekend.
