TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opens its 2016 home baseball schedule with a matchup against Greenville College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Rose-Hulman returns home after a six-game Florida trip to open the season. The Fightin' Engineers won 32 games and reached the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championship Game last season, and look to bounce back from a 1-5 start on the team's spring trip.
David Burnside leads the offense with a .455 batting average, four doubles and two home runs so far this season. Zach Trusk is at .375 with nine hits and seven runs scored. Marcus Wechselberger and Zach Donnelly are also over the .300 mark with averages of .333.
Jonathan Banks paces Rose-Hulman the pitching staff with a 1-0 record in six shutout innings with eight strikeouts. Clayton Mayfield added 4.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and Luke Buehler has a 2.25 earned run average in one start so far this season.
Greenville stands 2-5 overall entering Wednesday's matchup. Jesse Getz leads the Panthers with a .370 batting average, two doubles, one triple and one home run. Mike Hardin (.364), Shane Olmsted (.357) and Adam Lamb (.300) are also over the .300 mark. Jonah Moore has a 2-0 record with a 3.27 ERA and Klaiton Wolff has a pair of saves to top the Greenville pitching staff.
After Wednesday's game, Rose-Hulman is scheduled to host Carthage College in a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday at Art Nehf Field, weather permitting.
