TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team will compete in the four-team Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament starting Thursday at Earlham College.

Rose-Hulman is the No. 4 seed in this year's double-elimination tournament after finishing 16-11 in conference play.  The Fightin' Engineers are the defending HCAC Tournament champions and advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Division III Central Regional in 2016.

Earlham won the regular season championship at 21-6 in league play and will face the Fightin' Engineers on Thursday at noon.  Manchester captured the No. 2 seed at 18-9 in league games and will face No. 3 seed Mount St. Joseph (16-11).  The event continues through Saturday, with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament awarded to the champion.

The Rose-Hulman offense features four starters above the .300 mark in David Burnside (.388, 13 2B, 7 HR), Zach Trusk (.377, 12 2B, 1 HR); Conner Shipley (.347, 5 2B, 1 3B); and Brian Thomas (.307, 10 2B, 5 HR).

Other primary starters have included Marcus Wechselberger (.299, 6 2B, 1 3B); Drew Schnitz (.286, 4 2B, 1 HR); Ryan Stachowski (.284, 6 2B, 1 HR); Davis Robeson (.281, 4 2B, 1 3B); Koby Close (.265, 5 2B); and Logan Schiessle (.243, 1 2B).

Rose-Hulman has relied on four starting pitchers in 2017.  Ian Grant (3-4, 4.21), Luke Buehler (2-2, 4.22), Jonathan Banks (3-2, 5.04) and Cody Sunderhaus (1-4, 6.04) have started 38 games this season. The bullpen has been led by Clayton Mayfield (3-3, 4 saves, 3.16), Chuck Alexa (3-4, 5.79) and Stone Brogan (2-0, 6.00).
