Baseball Puts Unbeaten HCAC Mark on the Line at Transylvania

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team hits the road for Transylvania University and a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
NOTE: The Sunday doubleheader at Thomas More has been cancelled due to projected rain.

Rose-Hulman (15-8, 4-0 HCAC) News & Notes:
  • Rose-Hulman stands 15-8 overall and 4-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.  The Fightin' Engineers have swept in-state foes Manchester and Earlham in the conference season.
  • Luke Buehler is a two-time HCAC Pitcher of the Week and one-time D3baseball.com National Team of the Week honoree in 2019.  Buehler is currently 4-0 with a 1.23 earned run average, including 30 strikeouts in 29.1 innings of work.
  • The team's four primary starting pitchers have also included Trevor Dallio (1-2, 3.95, 29 K, 27.1 IP), Trever Bruno (1-2, 4.88, 8 K, 24 IP) and Clayton Mayfield (2-1, 5.97, 25 K, 28.2 IP)
  • Rose-Hulman's bullpen features four pitchers with at least one save, led by freshman Brian Pershing with three saves and freshman Adam Taylor with two.
  • Brian Pershing and Zach Witonsky have made the most of their playing time with batting avrages of .515 and .438, respectively, this season.
  • Starters hitting above .300 include Conner Helbling (.366, 5 2B, 1 HR); Davis Robeson (.329, 2 2B); Harris Camp (.320, 3 2B, 1 3B); Josh Mesenbrink (.317, 5 2B); David Burnside (.316, 9 2B, 1 HR); Logan Cody (.310, 6 2B); Conner Shipley (.307, 3 2B); and Luke Kluemper (.304, 1 2B).
  • Rose-Hulman has won four HCAC Tournament titles, two regular season HCAC championships and made two appearances in the NCAA Division III Regional Championship Round since 2009. 

Transylvania (12-16, 5-3 HCAC) News & Notes:

  • Transylvania is currently second in the HCAC standings at 5-3 in league play.  The Pioneers have swept doubleheaders over Earlham and Franklin so far this season.
  • Hudson Chastain leads the team in hitting at .405, and Michael Blair, Wade Lopiccolo and Devyn Wilson-Cowan have two home runs each.
  • The Pioneer pitching staff has struck out 194 batters in 246 innings of work this season.
