Rose-Hulman Baseball Hosts Franklin in Key Tuesday HCAC Showdown

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team hosts Franklin College in a battle of the first and second place teams in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings in a 4 pm doubleheader on Tuesday at Art Nehf Field.

Rose-Hulman (17-8, 6-0 HCAC) News & Notes:
  • Rose-Hulman stands 17-8 overall and leads the HCAC at 6-0 in conference play.  The Fightin' Engineers have swept Manchester, Earlham and Transylvania in the conference season.
  • Luke Buehler is a three-time HCAC Pitcher of the Week and one-time D3baseball.com National Team of the Week honoree in 2019.  Buehler is currently 5-0 with a 0.96 earned run average, including 39 strikeouts in 37.1 innings of work.
  • The team's four primary starting pitchers have also included Trevor Dallio (1-2, 3.95, 29 K, 27.1 IP), Trever Bruno (1-2, 4.88, 8 K, 24 IP) and Clayton Mayfield (3-1, 5.97, 30 K, 34.2 IP)
  • Rose-Hulman's bullpen features six pitchers with at least one save, led by freshman Brian Pershing with three saves and freshman Adam Taylor with two.
  • Zach Witonsky and Brian Pershing have made the most of their playing time with batting avrages of .471 and .459, respectively, this season.
  • Starters hitting above .300 include Conner Helbling (.375, 6 2B, 1 HR); Davis Robeson (.326, 2 2B); Harris Camp (.321, 3 2B, 1 3B); David Burnside (.316, 9 2B, 1 HR); Ryan Stachowski (.310, 7 2B, 1 3B); Logan Cody (.309, 7 2B, 1 3B); Conner Shipley (.305, 5 2B); and Luke Kluemper (.300, 1 2B)
  • Rose-Hulman has won four HCAC Tournament titles, two regular season HCAC championships and made two appearances in the NCAA Division III Regional Championship Round since 2009. 

Franklin (16-10, 5-3 HCAC) News & Notes:

  • Franklin is the defending HCAC regular season and conference tournament champions.  The Grizzlies finished 39-5 last season and reached the NCAA Division III Top 25.
  • Franklin has won four regular season conference championships since 2002.  The team has also made NCAA Tournament appearances in 2011 and 2017.
  • Offensively, the Grizzlies are batting .311 with 54 doubles and 24 home runs.
  • On the mound, Franklin has struck out 207 batters in 223 innings of work.
