Baseball Travels to Wabash for Sunday Doubleheader

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team will open its 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a home doubleheader against Manchester on Saturday at noon. The Fightin' Engineers then hit the road for Wabash College on Sunday at noon for a doubleheader.

Rose-Hulman (12-6, 2-0 HCAC) News & Notes:

  • Rose-Hulman stands 12-6 overall and 2-0 in HCAC play after sweeping a doubleheader from Manchester on Saturday.
  • Luke Buehler is a two-time HCAC Pitcher of the Week and one-time D3baseball.com National Team of the Week honoree in 2019.  Buehler is currently 4-0 with a 1.23 earned run average, including 30 strikeouts in 29.1 innings of work.
  • The team's four primary starting pitchers have also included Trevor Dallio (0-2, 5.14, 23 K, 21.0 IP), Trever Bruno (0-2, 7.02, 6 K, 16.2 IP) and Clayton Mayfield (2-1, 5.97, 25 K, 28.2 IP)
  • Rose-Hulman's bullpen features four pitchers with at least one save, led by freshmen Brian Pershing and Adam Taylor with two saves each.
  • Brian Pershing and Zach Witonsky have made the most of their playing time with .538 batting averages so far this season.
  • Starters hitting above .300 include Conner Helbling (.381, 5 2B, 1 HR); Josh Mesenbrink (.367, 5 2B); Logan Cody (.333, 5 2B); Conner Shipley (.318, 2 2B); Luke Kluemper (.316, 1 2B); and Davis Robeson (.313, 1 2B).  David Burnside is also at .299 with six doubles and one home run.  
  • Rose-Hulman has won four HCAC Tournament titles, two regular season HCAC championships and made two appearances in the NCAA Division III Regional Championship Round since 2009. 

Wabash (11-11, 1-4 NCAC) News & Notes:

  • Wabash split a doubleheader with NCAC foe Kenyon on Saturday.
  • The Little Giants finished 32-17 last season and reached the NCAA Division III Regional Championship round in 2018.
