TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman football record book came shattering down in 2024 as three Fightin' Engineers tallied seven school records this season.

Junior runningback Jay Smith broke the single-game rushing record with 252 yards, topping the 2011 total of 246 by Kyle Kovach, in a 52-10 win over Bluffton. Smith also became the sixth player in school history to rush for five touchdowns in a game in the win over the Beavers.

Smith carried that momentum on the ground for the remainder of the season as he broke a 41-year old with 1,297 rushing yards in 2024. Schrader ran for 1,228 and held the record for over 40 years.

Fifth year wide receiver Daniel Huery continued his record breaking career by topping the record book in both career and single-season receptions. Huery hauled in 79 catches in 2024 to take the top spot from Aaron Abbott who tallied 76 back in 2014. Huery now holds two of the top-3 single-season totals after recording 75 receptions in 2022.

Huery also topped the charts in the career reception category as he tallied 269 career receptions during his illustrious career. The Houston, Texas native passed 2021 graduate Noah Thomas who caught 256 in his career. Both Huery and Thomas sit over 38 pass receptions clear of the third-place total of 218.

Bidwell, Ohio native Andrew Toler also capped off his record-breaking season as he eclipsed the all-time record for yards per punt in both career and single-season categories. Toler tallied 39 punts for 1,866 yards during his 2024 season for an average of 47.846 yards per punt. This total eclipses a 46-year old school record of 44.918 set by Bob Burwell in the 1978 season. Andrew now holds three of the top four season marks in school history after tallying totals of 44.417 yards per punt in 2023 and 43.211 yards per punt in 2022.

Toler's single-season yards per punt total of 47.846 would have broken the NCAA Division III record for yards per punt of 46.170 set back in 2016, but he did not qualify for this category with just 39 of the required 40 total punts this season. He did lead the NCAA Division III in yards per punt this season by over 3.5 yards, and he ranked 4th amongst all divisions of the NCAA.

Toler finished his career with 41.526 yards per punt on 175 total punts which also tops Bob Burwell's 46-year old school record set back in 1978. Toler and Burwell are the only two players in Rose-Hulman history to average over 40 yards per punt during their careers.

The Rose-Hulman football field will return to the field on Saturday, September 6, 2025 as they host the DePauw University Tigers at 7 PM for their home opener under the lights.
